What is Dental Infection?

A dental infection is the result of harmful bacteria invading the oral cavity, mainly affecting the teeth and their support structures. Causes include untreated dental issues, gum inflammation, abscesses, trauma, or dental procedure complications.

Prevention

Tooth decay must be avoided in order to avoid a tooth abscess. To avoid tooth decay, take proper care of your teeth:

  • Drink fluoridated water.
  • Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day.
  • Clean between your teeth every day with dental floss or an interdental cleaning.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or as soon as the bristles get ragged.
  • Limit sugary foods and between-meal snacks and eat healthful foods.
  • Regular checkups and professional cleanings are recommended by your dentist.
  • To give an extra layer of protection against tooth decay, use an antiseptic or a fluoride mouth rinse.
